Cemetery
Honoring saints of every generation: A sacred resting place beneath the oaks
A place of remembrance
For centuries, families of St. John’s have chosen this hilltop to honor their loved ones and wait in hope for the resurrection. Among the oaks rest early settlers, Revolutionary War patriots, pastors, and generations of members whose stories continue to live through our community today. These grounds carry the memory of those who shaped our congregation’s faith and character, standing as a quiet testimony to God’s presence through every season of life. Whether you come seeking family roots or simply a moment of peace, the cemetery invites you to walk slowly, breathe deeply, and remember the great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us.
Three Centuries of Legacy
History woven into the land
St. John’s Cemetery reflects the long story of Lutheran life along Dutch Buffalo Creek. The earliest burials trace back to the mid-1700s, when the first Meeting Haus stood nearby, and the congregation began to grow under the leadership of pioneers and pastors such as Rev. Adolph Nussmann. Over time, this hill became the chosen resting place for soldiers, teachers, clergy, farmers, and families who helped shape both our church and the wider community. Today, descendants and visitors still walk these paths to reconnect with stories held in stone and soil.
